This combined event is a unique opportunity for all the Engineers in Oman to get updated information regarding the technical aspects related to Fire Safety and Dynamics of Structures. The Event will also include short presentation about routes to membership for ICE and IstructE.

Speaker Biographies
Ellen Ryan - Ellen Ryan is the Education, Learning and Assessment Manager at the ICE. The education, learning and assessment team is one of the 5 areas in the Qualifications Team which in turn is part of the Membership Division. In 2018 Ellen was the recipient of the Garth Watson Medal, an award which recognises dedicated and valuable service to the Institution by a member or member of staff. Ellen received the award for her long service, over 38 years and extensive work behind the scenes.
Dr Clive Williams ,BSc(Hons) PhD FICE CEng
Dr Williams was formerly Head of The School of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Plymouth in the UK. He was also was Associate Dean for Quality and Standards for 2,500 students in the Faculty of Technology and then Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs. He has researched on dynamics of civil engineering structures for some 40 years and was supported by EPSRC grant, publishing 60 papers and major reports. He was Honorary Secretary and Chair of the Association of Civil Engineering Departments in the UK. He was Principal Applicant to the UK Funding Council for a £250,000 Teaching and Learning grant. He was a board member and then member of the International Sub-committee of the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) for the Institution of Civil Engineers
Professor Kuldeep Virdi, BSc, BTech, ME, PhD, DIC, CEng, FIStructE, FICE
Professor Virdi is Emeritus Professor of Structural Engineering at City, University of London. He has held several research grants from EPSRC, Building Research Establishment, government departments, industry, and EU, including a current project on steel cladding systems for the stabilization of steel buildings in fire – STABFI. He is author or co-author of over 80 papers and has edited nine technical anthologies. He participates in the activities of the Institution of Structural Engineers and has served on several of its panels. He currently sits on the International
Sub-Committee of the Joint Board of Moderators. He is a corresponding member of ECCS TC3 Fire Safety of Steel Structures. He was conferred the degree Doctor, Honoris Causa, from the University of Architecture, Civil
Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia, Bulgaria and is a foreign member of the Royal Society of the Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg.
